What Students and Pilots Say
★★★★★ 1 year agoI had a great experience flying with Land and Sea Aviation. We rented a 172 and flew around Denali mountains. Kit Barton, our instructor was awesome. He has great knowledge of the mountains and expertly guided us through the mountains. If anyone is looking to rent an aircraft in Anchorage, this is the place!

★★★★★ 1 year agoA great flight school with great instructors. It's relatively affordable and also offers part 141 training courses in addition to the usual part 61 courses which many flight schools in Anchorage and the valley don't offer. This can save you a bit of money in some cases and also offers another way to learn for your flight ratings. For those looking for a place to time build for their instrument or commercial ratings i…

★★☆☆☆ 3 months agoDid a Discovery Flight with them, it was affordable at $105. The folks answering the phone couldn’t answer my questions and seemed unprofessional. My CFI was nice however I was their 3rd or 4th discovery flight ever. They didn’t have me do much and I didn’t learn much. Everyone I met was friendly and I appreciate that however I’m not confident in the quality of education.

★★★★★ 1 year agoRecently while visiting the Anchorage area I was delighted to realize a dream I have had since my youth , to pilot a small plane. My research led me to Land & Sea Aviation, and my flight instructor Wella Jay was beyond professional. From the first “hello” to “ready for take off” Wella’s easy going personality created trust immediately throughout my first intro to flight school. I have now an amazing perspective of …

Planning Your Training Here
Planning training at a local school like Land and Sea Aviation Alaska, LLC trades the academy's speed for flexibility and often meaningfully lower total cost. The pay-as-you-fly model keeps your money in your control, and training two to three lessons weekly around work is the proven rhythm, enough frequency to retain skills without the academy's all-in schedule. The variable to manage is momentum: local-school students who succeed book standing lesson slots, fly year-round, and treat ground study as homework rather than something that happens at the airport. Ask about aircraft scheduling depth, instructor availability on your target days, and examiner wait times in Anchorage, the three friction points that stretch part-time timelines.
What Flying in Alaska Teaches You
Alaska is the graduate school of practical aviation, and it starts teaching on day one. Weather changes by the fjord, passes close behind you, daylight swings from midnight sun to five-hour winter days, and the state's pilots learn to read all of it because the alternative is waiting it out on a gravel strip. Students here fly floats off Lake Hood, the busiest seaplane base on earth, share pattern space with working freight Caravans, and absorb a culture where turning around is counted as airmanship, not failure.
How to Evaluate Land and Sea Aviation Alaska, LLC on Your Tour
Every school on this directory gets the same advice from us, because the fundamentals don't move. Walk the ramp and count how many aircraft are down for maintenance. Ask how many lessons a week they can actually schedule you, and how far out the booking calendar runs. Ask for first-attempt checkride pass rates and how long students wait for an examiner. And keep your money in your control: pay as you fly, or in small blocks with clear refund terms.
Then weigh the location itself. Training in Anchorage means building your early hours in Alaska weather and airspace, and both become part of your airmanship. Our school-selection guide covers the full vetting checklist, and the financing page maps scholarships and loans that apply at schools like this one.
