What Students and Pilots Say

★★★★★ 9 months ago

Great flight school, I took a trial flight and would highly recommend!!! I'm a UK Private Pilot and just got my FAA bolt-on but have never flown in the U.S. before. Kyle was happy to take me up and show me the ropes. His experienced and calm approach to training made me feel comfortable and the flight was as professional as it was fun. The airport has a more than adequate runway yet the airfield is relaxed and you'r…

After doing my Private Pilots License in an awful part 141 flight school, it was nice to continue my IFR/CPL in a part 61 school. Kyle has been a great instructor and helped me better than my other flight instructors. His Piper Archer is also well equipped and is an amazing plane to fly, it is well maintained and perfect for training. Highly recommend this school for any flight training you're looking for.

My 17-month-old and I rode along and my husband did the introductory flight with Kyle, who is an excellent instructor. Kyle was patient, capable, knowledgeable, professional, and very affable. He made the lesson fun for my husband, a first-timer, and allowed him to do pretty much everything (with guidance, of course) except land. Kyle also made sure that our toddler was okay in the back with me. I definitely recommen…

I just passed my Private Pilot checkride. I have had an amazing experience. Kyle is a great instructor. I was incredibly prepared for all aspects. I have a very busy schedule and everyone was very accommodating. He let my daughter ride along and she loved it! Kyle is great at explaining concepts. A better understanding of why things happen and what to do which enable you to react accordingly. He is also very…

Planning Your Training Here

Planning training at a local school like Windborne Flight School trades the academy's speed for flexibility and often meaningfully lower total cost. The pay-as-you-fly model keeps your money in your control, and training two to three lessons weekly around work is the proven rhythm, enough frequency to retain skills without the academy's all-in schedule. The variable to manage is momentum: local-school students who succeed book standing lesson slots, fly year-round, and treat ground study as homework rather than something that happens at the airport. Ask about aircraft scheduling depth, instructor availability on your target days, and examiner wait times in Racine, the three friction points that stretch part-time timelines.

What Flying in Wisconsin Teaches You

Wisconsin owns one week of the world's busiest airspace, Oshkosh during EAA AirVenture, when the state becomes aviation's capital and its approach procedures become legend. The other fifty-one weeks deliver Great Lakes weather, hard winters, and a grassroots flying culture as deep as anywhere in America.

How to Evaluate Windborne Flight School on Your Tour

Every school on this directory gets the same advice from us, because the fundamentals don't move. Walk the ramp and count how many aircraft are down for maintenance. Ask how many lessons a week they can actually schedule you, and how far out the booking calendar runs. Ask for first-attempt checkride pass rates and how long students wait for an examiner. And keep your money in your control: pay as you fly, or in small blocks with clear refund terms.

Then weigh the location itself. Training in Racine means building your early hours in Wisconsin weather and airspace, and both become part of your airmanship. Our school-selection guide covers the full vetting checklist, and the financing page maps scholarships and loans that apply at schools like this one.

Common Questions About Training at Windborne Flight School

How long would my training take here?

Part-time students flying two to three lessons weekly typically earn a private certificate in six to twelve months and a commercial certificate in two to three years, with pace set by your calendar and the weather. Consistency decides everything: standing lesson slots beat sporadic bursts by months.

What will it cost, and can I get help paying?

Get Windborne Flight School's current rates directly; published numbers age fast in this industry. Nationally, plan on $80,000 to $120,000 from zero time to commercial certificates before instructing pay starts offsetting costs. Our financing guide maps the loans, scholarships, and airline cadet programs that apply here, and several scholarship cycles go undersubscribed every single year.

How should I arrange a visit?

Call ahead and ask for a tour on a normal training day, not a quiet one. Use the directions button above to plan the drive to Racine, arrive early enough to watch ramp operations, and bring the vetting checklist from this page. A school proud of its operation will show you everything; hesitation is itself an answer.
